Masaru Araki

Masaru Araki

Masaru Araki, 90, of Hilo died Oct. 6 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Kapoho, he was a retired welder for Kuwaye Brothers and Allied Aggregates and member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

He is survived by sons, Alvin Araki and Dick (Maureen) Araki, both of Hilo, Edward Araki of Wailuku, Maui; daughter, Claudia (Mark) Uyeda of Hilo; five grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Karyn O’Brien

Karyn Mary O’Brien, 55, of Mountain View died Oct. 20 at Hilo Medical Center. She was born March 3, 1957, in Michigan.

Friends may call at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 at the family residence in Hawaiian Acres for a celebration of life. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

She is survived by daughters, Dawn Martin, Crystal O’Brien and Jennifer O’Brien, all of Hilo; son, Christopher Snavley of Reno, Nev.; sisters, Charry Moore of Lake Arrowhead, Calif., Pam O’Brien of Federal Way, Wash.; brothers, Bill O’Brien of Seattle, Dennis O’Brien of San Antonio; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara Dronkers

Barbara Anne Dronkers, 81, of Keaau died Oct. 15. Born June 19, 1931, in Oklahoma, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by daughter, Deidre Weiss; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

William Shigekane

William Shoji “Funny” Shigekane, 85, of Hilo died Oct. 5 at his residence. Born Jan. 13, 1927, in Hilo, he was employed as a parts clerk for the Davies Co. in Hilo, Central Parts Co. and was a bartender for the Sky Chef Co.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Machiko Shigekane of Hilo; sons, Griffith Shigekane of Hilo, Myron Shigekane of Aurora, Colo.; daughter, Merle (Donald) Pua of Pahoa; brothers, Henry Shigekane of Washington state, Herbert (Joan) Shigekane of California, Richard (Toshiko) Shigekane of Virginia; one grandson.

Lolita Quevedo

Lolita Padilla Quevedo, 66, of Hilo died Oct. 18 at her residence. Born Jan. 24, 1946, in Pangasinan, Philippines, she was a retired dietician at Hilo Medical Center, owner of Quevedo Foster Family Care Home and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. mass. Urn burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire be worn. Online condolences may be posted at homelanimemorialpark.com.

She is survived by daughter, Ashli (James) Quevedo of Hilo; sons, Michael (Kristie) Quevedo of Hilo, Jaysen (Isa) Quevedo of Ewa Beach, Oahu; brothers, Dominador (Laura) Padilla of Hilo, Ruben (Teresita) Padilla of Pahoa, Juan (Marie) Padilla of Hanamalu, Kauai, John (Jodie) Padilla and Romeo (Jonnette) Padilla, both of Mountain View; sisters, Rudilia Agpoon and Arcadia (Roy) Kuahuia, both of Hilo, Elvira (Nicanor) Uy of Las Vegas, Josephine Torres of New York; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sammy Moses Sr.

Sammy “Sam” Lanaihoku Moses Sr., 68, of Hilo, died Oct. 20 in Wisconsin. Born May 15, 1944, in Pepeekeo, he was a retired partsman for the former Hawaii Motors, president of Hawaiian Knights Motorcycle Club, former member of the Hawaii Army National Guard and member of Sure Foundation Church and ILWU Local 142.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Oct. 30 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park Lehua Section. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Susan Spidell-Moses of Hilo; sons, Sammy Moses Jr. of Hilo, Shane (Adrianna) Silva of Georgia, James (Aiza) Silva Jr. of Virginia, Jake (Chanda) Silva of Georgia; daughters, Wendy (Derwin Taka) Moses and Renee (Damien) Moniz, both of Hilo; brothers, Jack Moses of Honomu, Joe Moses of Kona, John (Alice) Moses and Paul (Jane) Moses, both of Hilo; sister, Theresa Correia of Honolulu; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
